The department hosted a reception for undergraduate scholars who have conducted research in faculty labs over the summer.

On August 19, 2016, the scholars gathered with their mentors, faculty and students at the reception in the Young Hall Student Center. The reception was to congratulate the students on their admission to these highly competitive programs, and to congratulate them on the outstanding research they have been doing here at UCLA.

This summer, we had over 35 visiting undergraduate students participating in summer research in our department through SPUR, Summer Programs for Undergraduate Research, and several other summer research programs.

We also had 12 UCLA scholars who were able to conduct research in our labs this summer thanks to the following 2016 Departmental Summer Research Fellowship Awards: AXE Undergraduate Summer Research Fellowship, Alumni Undergraduate Summer Research Fellowship, Chemistry & Biochemistry Department Research Fellowship, Daniel Kivelson Undergraduate Summer Research Fellowship, Whitcome Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship, Raymond & Dorothy Wilson Research Fellowship, and a new fellowship, awarded for the first time this year, the Zymo Research Summer Undergraduate Fellowship.
