Alumnus Dr Kevin Cheung (PhD ’19, Andrews/P Weiss groups) is lead author of ACS Sensors cover article and profiled by the journal.
Cheung is lead author on a paper titled “Phenylalanine Monitoring via Aptamer-Field-Effect Transistor Sensors” which was the featured cover article of the December 27, 2019 issue of ACS Sensors. He was profiled in the issue of the journal.
Cheung’s co-authors included UCLA Chemistry & Biochemistry faculty members Professors Anne Andrews, Paul Weiss, and Michael Jung. The research was in collaboration with researchers at Columbia University. The artwork for the cover (right) was created by Dr. Jae Hyeon Park, a postdoctoral researcher in the Weiss group.
Cheung received his Ph.D. in materials chemistry from UCLA in 2019 conducting joint graduate research in the laboratories of Professors Anne Andrews and Paul Weiss. His research focused on the development of next generation electronic biosensors with artificial nucleic acid receptors, and also on advancing self-assembly and surface patterning techniques.
In early 2020, Cheung will begin his postdoctoral research with Professor Hongkun Park at Harvard University.
