Distinguished Professor Paul S. Weiss was recently featured in ACS Nano Medicine in a profile highlighting his pioneering contributions to nanoscience, his approach to scientific discovery, and his leadership in advancing the field.
Titled “Imaging the Invisible, Designing the Future: Paul S. Weiss on Nanoscale Discovery and Leadership,” the feature explores Weiss’s career and his vision for the future of nanoscale research.
In the article, Weiss discusses the importance of developing tools that enable scientists to observe, to understand and to manipulate matter at the nanoscale. His research has helped transform how researchers study surfaces and materials, with broad implications across chemistry, biology, medicine and technology.
Throughout his career, Weiss has been recognized as a leading figure in nanoscience, contributing to advances in scanning probe microscopy, molecular-scale imaging and the design of functional nanostructures. He has also played a major role in shaping the field through scientific leadership, including his work as founding editor-in-chief of ACS Nano.
At UCLA, Weiss continues to lead interdisciplinary research at the intersection of chemistry, materials science, engineering, medicine and nanotechnology, inspiring the next generation of scientists to explore the now less hidden world of the nanoscale.
