Distinguished Professors Yu Huang and Richard Kaner have been elected full members of the European Academy of Engineering (EAE).
Huang, holder of the UCLA Traugott and Dorothea Frederking Endowed Chair in Engineering at the UCLA Samueli School of Engineering and a faculty member in the Departments of Chemistry and Biochemistry and Materials Science and Engineering, was recognized for her contributions to cross-scale integration of dissimilar materials to gain new functions for sustainable technologies, including pioneering advances in catalyst design, energy conversion and storage, and quantum materials.
Kaner, holder of the UCLA Dr. Myung Ki Hong Endowed Chair in Materials Innovation and a faculty member in the Departments of Chemistry and Biochemistry and Materials Science and Engineering, was recognized for his internationally acclaimed contributions to materials chemistry, including pioneering research on conducting polymers, graphene, superhard materials, and advanced functional materials.
Professor Alexander Balandin from UCLA Materials Science & Engineering was also elected to the 2026 EAE cohort.
