Thirty-three new summer researchers (future graduate students) joined the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry and completed a two-day orientation program, held in July of this year.

Chair Miguel Garcia-Garibay and Graduate Advisor Bill Gelbart welcomed the group, which included students from all major regions of the United States, as well as India and Thailand. An additional 20 researchers will join the department each week until August 26.

This is the second year the department has held a formal summer orientation, which allows summer researchers to meet fellow participants in the larger group and form relationships from early on. The cohort has already started a facebook group.
