Dr. Jiansen Jiang and Dr. Edward Miracco won the 2013 UCLA Chancellor’s Award for Postdoctoral Research. Professor Ken Houk was also presented with the 2013 Postdoctoral Mentoring Award. The awards were presented at the Postdoctoral Scholar’s Reception.
Dr. Jiansen Jiang and Dr. Edward Miracco (joint winners/Juli Feigon Lab) were among the 1022 registed UCLA postdoctoral scholars to receive one of the seven Chancellor’s Awards for Postdoctoral research. This award (including a $4,000 prize for each of the seven awards) was established in 1998 to recognize the important contributions that postdoctoral scholars make to UCLA’s interrelated missions of research, teaching, and public service.

In all, there were 23 nominees representing virtually every discipline at UCLA, from the basic and applied sciences, humanities, social sciences, and professional schools. Among the 23 nominees, 4 were from Chemistry & Biochemistry. These outstanding scholars included Dr. Gonzalo Jimenez (Ken Houk Lab) and Dr. James Frederich (Patrick Harran Lab), in addition to Jiansen Jiang and Edward Miracco.

In addition to the Postdoctoral Awards, their faculty mentors were also recognized at the event. Our own Ken Houk was presented with the 2013 Postdoctoral Mentoring Award.
