Dr. Robert and Carole Foran have made a generous commitment to the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry in honor of Professor Kenneth Trueblood.

Their gift establishes the Robert and Carole Foran Fund in Chemistry & Biochemistry to support undergraduate, graduate, and/or post-doctoral scholarships and fellowships in honor of Professor Kenneth Trueblood, who was a well-respected and admired chemistry faculty member for over 50 years. The Forans’ contribution will be matched to establish the Robert and Carole Foran Endowed Matching Fund in Chemistry & Biochemistry.

Dr. Robert Foran received his undergraduate education in Chemistry at UCLA. He received his medical school education at the University of California, San Francisco in 1956. His general surgery training was at the LA County/USC Medical Center. During his distinguished practice he was chief of the vascular surgery division and kidney transplant service, as well as a longstanding member of the Medical Executive Committee at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. He has co-authored over 40 journal articles on a variety of vascular surgical topics, particularly issues of dialysis access. Dr. Foran retired from surgical practice in 2005. Dr. Foran has won several National Men’s Tennis titles, and currently is ranked No. 1 in Men’s 90+ Doubles. His wife, Dr. Carole Foran is a marriage and family therapist in Beverly Hills, California. They have four children, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, many of whom are also Bruins.

Dr. Robert Foran always admired Dr. Trueblood, and worked with him closely during his research. They remained very close friends throughout their lives. Robert and Carole are delighted to support the department in honor of such a renowned UCLA legend as Dr. Trueblood.
