On May 8, 2018, Professor Neil Garg and his students hosted a visit to UCLA by 25 science students from Valencia High School.
The students were joined by two of their science teachers, Ray Sanchez, a personal friend of Garg’s, and UCLA alumna Tamara Desso ’11.
In addition to touring Garg’s laboratory and seeing demonstrations on forensics chemistry, food science, and chromatography, Garg gave the students a crash course in basic organic chemistry. He also provided the students with tips on how to succeed in college.
As part of the visit, the students also had lunch with current UCLA students, were given a campus tour, and toured the laboratory of Professor Tracy Johnson in the UCLA Department of Molecular, Cell, and Developmental Biology.
The Garg lab members who orchestrated the event are: Bryan Simmons, Jason Chari, Francesca Ippoliti, Rachel Knapp, Sarah Anthony, Elias Picazo, Robert Susick, Joyann Barber, Melinda Nguyen, and Dr. Evan Darzi.
During their campus tour, the visiting high school students and their teachers posed for a photo in front of Royce Hall (photo credit: Neil Garg).
