Professor Neil Garg has agreed to serve an additional year as Chair of the department, with four new Vice Chairs appointed for one-year terms.
“I’m delighted to report that Professor Neil Garg has agreed to serve an additional year as Chair of the department,” said Dean of Physical Sciences Professor Miguel García-Garibay. “We are very grateful for his extraordinary service to the department, the division, and the University.”
Garg will continue to pursue the many initiatives he has undertaken in the past three years: excellence in teaching and administration, the recruitment of talented new faculty, the equitable distribution of research space, among others. Professors Margot Quinlan, Ellen Sletten, Alex Spokoyny, and Jorge Torres have agreed to serve as the Vice Chairs of the department during Garg’s additional term, effective July 1, 2022.
Quinlan will serve as Vice Chair of Academic Personnel (she has served as Vice Chair of Academic Personnel/Space Allocation since 2019), Sletten will serve as Vice Chair of Graduate Education, Spokoyny will serve as Vice Chair of Space Allocation, and Torres will serve as the Vice Chair of Undergraduate Education.
We also thank the former Vice Chairs whose three-year terms end on June 31, 2022 – Professor Anastassia Alexandrova, who served as Vice Chair of Undergraduate Education, and Professor Patrick Harran, who served as Vice Chair of Graduate Education.
