2024 gBSA Summer Seminar Series

Starting Friday, July 12, the 2024 Summer Seminar Series, organized by the Graduate Biochemistry Student Association (gBSA), features talks by professionals working in academia and industry, including UCLA Chemistry & Biochemistry alumni.

Join us for the seminars every Friday afternoon from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the Dongwon Yoo Seminar & Conference Hall – Young Hall 4222.  Light refreshments will be served before the seminar outside of YH4222. You can find the series schedule in the provided PDF, and all are welcome to attend.

The last seminar of the series will be a special “Amateur Hour” where incoming graduate students will have the opportunity to introduce themselves and present their research.

  • August 23 – Dr. Gary Shapiro, Vice-President of Discovery Biology, Affini-T, Arlington, MA
  • August 30 – Dr. Alex Chaim, Assistant Professor, UC San Diego
  • September 6 – Dr. Maria Silva Elipe, Scientific Associate Director, Amgen, Thousand Oaks, CA
  • September 13 – Alumna Dr. Sue Tsui (Ph.D. 2019, Catherine Clarke Lab), Principal Scientist, AbbVie, Boston, MA
  • September 27  Amateur Hour! A great opportunity to meet our incoming first-year students and learn about their research.  All are welcome to join! Mixer to follow.

The UCLA Graduate Biochemistry Student Association (gBSA) is a student-run organization whose goal is to “promote camaraderie between students, share knowledge, and offer opportunities to better prepare ourselves for future careers.”
