Five graduate students receive UCLA Health Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center (JCCC) 2025 Fellowship Awards

Ph.D. candidates Mai Abdusamad, Katarina Cohen, Teagan Dean, Jadyn Malone, and Jack Scully receive UCLA Health Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center (JCCC) 2025 Fellowship Awards to support their cancer research projects.

The UCLA Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center (JCCC) Fellowship Program provides research funding to postdoctoral scholars/fellows, residents, and graduate Students engaged in all areas of cancer research, including basic, translational, clinical, and population sciences. 

Congratulations to the following graduate students, each awarded a 2025 JCCC Fellowship of up to $10,000 for the following research projects:

Mai Abdusamad (Prof. Jorge Torres’ group) – “Defining the Role of the phosphatase DUSP12 in Cancer Cell Division and Apoptosis”.

Katarina Cohen (Prof. Danielle Schmitt’s group) – “Revealing the Spatiotemporal Flux of Methionine Dynamics in Cancer”.

Teagan Dean (Prof. Danielle Schmitt’s group and Prof. Tara TeSlaa’s group) – “Investigating the Organelle Specific Role of S-Adenosylmethionine”.

Jadyn Malone (Prof. Stefan Petrovic’s group) – “Cell-cell junction regulation of YAP subcellular localization and function”.

Jack Scully (Prof. Danielle Schmitt’s group) – “Demystifying mitochondrial glutamine transport in cancer cells”.
