Prof. Sarah Tolbert

Professor Sarah Tolbert, recipient of the SCALACS Tolman Award for the year 2023, recently presented a virtual seminar titled “Holey Batteries Batman, Can Chemists Really Help Solve Our Energy Problems?”, as part of the Chemists Celebrate Earth Week (CCEW).  The video is now available for viewing online here.

The Tolman medal is awarded each year by the Southern California Section of the American Chemical Society (SCALACS) in recognition of the medalist’s outstanding contributions to chemistry. Tolbert will be presented with the medal and give another in-person research lecture at the Richard C. Tolman Award Dinner Meeting, hosted by SCALACS and the UCLA Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry, on Wednesday, June 12, 2024 at 6:00 pm at the UCLA Faculty Club.  RSVP & Purchase Dinner Tickets here. The deadline to register is May 22, 2024.  Tickets are $20 for students and postdocs, and $80 for all others.

Tolbert is a Distinguished Professor in the Departments of Chemistry & Biochemistry and Materials Science and Engineering at UCLA. She was selected for the SCALACS Tolman Award in recognition of her groundbreaking research in nanoscience and materials chemistry.  Tolbert is revolutionizing the design and function of materials by building nanoscale structures that combine synthesis and characterization approaches from the worlds of “soft” and “hard” matter.

The virtual seminar was presented by SCALACS in conjunction with the American Chemical Society (ACS) Chemists Celebrate Earth Week (CCEW) and is made possible with the Science Cafe Grant from Local Section Activities Committee of ACS.
