The UCLA Graduate Biochemistry Student Association (gBSA) hosted its annual Trivia Night and Costume Contest on October 24, 2025, bringing together graduate students from across the biosciences for an evening of friendly competition, creative costumes, and community building, as the first event of the academic year. gBSA is a student-run organization that organizes social, outreach, and professional development opportunities open to all biosciences graduate students.

This year’s Halloween Trivia Night and Costume Contest took place in Boyer Hall 159, where approximately 60 students and post-doctoral fellows gathered to test their general knowledge across five trivia rounds. The competition featured 10 spirited teams, each bringing their own energy, costumes, and team pride.

The First Place Team: Anais Trinephi, Ambika Sharma, Eli Blascyk, Sesha Batra, Sam Nakil, Kayla Boxer.
The Second Place Team: Kate Hofmann, Brooke Morales, Daniel Cohn, Nate Goodwin, Kayleigh Mason-Chalmers, Marie Soroush-Pejrimovsky.
The Third Place Team: Chris George, Ethan Wendell, Tomasz Zamyslowski, Andrew Fisher, Jason Hu, Natalie Leon.

After a close match through all five rounds, the winning team, composed of first year Biochemistry, Molecular and Structural Biology (BMSB) PhD students, emerged victorious with a total score of 31 points, earning 1st place in the 2025 gBSA Trivia Contest! Coming in close behind was the second place team with 30 points, and the third place team scoring 28 points. The costume winner was Aaron Teo as Cody from “Surf’s Up.”
