A celebration was recently held at the California NanoSystems Institute (CNSI) in honor of Professor Heather Maynard, Dr. Myung Ki Hong Endowed Chair in Polymer Science, and associate director of CNSI, recognizing her recent election to the National Academy of Sciences (NAS), which is one of the highest achievements in American science. Her pioneering research in polymer and materials chemistry has had a profound impact on drug delivery and therapeutic development.
At the event on July 11, 2025, CNSI Director and NAS member Professor Jeffrey F. Miller delivered the opening remarks, followed by comments from Dean of Physical Sciences and NAS member Professor Miguel García-Garibay, and Chair of the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry, Professor Alex Spokoyny.
In addition to Professors Maynard, Miller, and García-Garibay, three other UCLA members of the National Academy of Sciences attended the event: Professors David Eisenberg, Juli Feigon, and Kendall Houk.
