Five UCLA Chemistry & Biochemistry faculty are among the most influential scientists in their fields for 2018, as determined by Clarivate Analytics.
Those recognized are Professors Xiangfeng Duan, Richard Kaner, Kendall Houk, Sabeeha Merchant, and Jeffrey Zink.
The purpose of the Clarivate Analytics’ Highly Cited Researchers List is to identify contemporary authors whose research has significantly influenced others in their field. The list names nearly 3,000 scientists from around the world whose studies were among the top one percent most referenced in studies from their field. (Read more about the rankings methodology.)
Most cited influential scholars – Professors Xiangfeng Duan, Richard Kaner, Kendall Houk, Sabeeha Merchant, and Jeffrey Zink.
This year the media organization’s list included 40 UCLA faculty from a broad cross-section of campus units including cardiology, hematology-oncology, psychiatry, neurology, public health, clinical nutrition, behavioral science, ecology and evolutionary biology, environment and sustainability, bioengineering, radiology, engineering, physics, mathematics, neurobiology, and astronomy.

The world’s most influential scientific researchers in 2018 include 40 UCLA scholars.
In its annual list, Clarivate Analytics names the most highly cited researchers — those whose work was most often referenced by other scientific research papers for the preceding decade in 21 fields across the sciences and social sciences. (The 2018 list is based on citations between 2006 and 2016.)
The researchers rank in the top 1 percent in their fields in producing widely cited studies, indicating that their work “has been repeatedly judged by their peers to be of notable significance and utility,” according to Clarivate. Current UCLA faculty members and researchers who were named to the list, noted with their primary UCLA research field or fields, are:
