Overview

Departmental majors who have completed at least 8 units of Chem 196A-199 can request to substitute one upper-division lab course. Please note that students can only take advantage of this course substitution one time during their undergraduate career.

Interested students should fill out the form below and read it in its entirety.

Upper-Division Lab Courses Eligible

If a Biochemistry major:

  • Chem 154

If a Chemistry or Chemistry-Materials Science major:

  • Chem 114
  • Chem 136
  • Chem 144
  • Chem C174
  • Chem 184
  • Chem 185

Eligibility Requirements

  • At the time of submitting this form, the student must have completed at least 8 units of any combination of Chem 196A-199.
    • Students who have only completed 4 units of Chem 196A and are interested in this substitution should subsequently enroll in Chem 196B (for a letter grade) for the remaining 4 units required.
  • Note: SRP 196A-199 courses taken outside of our department cannot be applied.
  • Students are required to submit their unofficial transcript with their Chem 196A-199 grades.

Form Instructions

  • Submit completed form by Friday of Week 2 of final quarter of undergraduate studies. No exceptions to the deadline will be considered, so please plan ahead.
  • If the substitution is approved, the student will receive an email from DocuSign confirming that the form was completed. Students can expect their Degree Audit Report (DAR) to be updated within 2-3 business days.
  • If the substitution is denied, the student will receive an email from DocuSign stating that the form was denied or voided.
