UCLA Environment, Health and Safety (EH&S) provides various online and instructor-led safety classes, such as Biosafety, Bloodborne Pathogens, Fire Extinguisher Training, Laboratory Safety, Hazardous Waste Management, and Radiation Safety. Depending on your research area you will need to take several of these courses, so consult with your research advisor to determine which ones are required for you. You will login and register for live courses or take online courses through the website WORKSAFE. In addition, you can browse through the listing of UCLA EH&S safety classes there to find additional training courses that can benefit your safety.
 

Minimum Training

At a minimum, all researchers in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry are required to complete the following essential training classes, except for undergraduate researchers who do not need to complete Fire Extinguisher Training.

  • Laboratory Safety Fundamentals
  • Laboratory Safety Fundamentals Annual Refresher
  • Fire Extinguisher Training

Wet Lab Training

Any researchers working in a wet lab should also complete this course:

Researchers wanting a more in-depth look at laboratory safety should consider taking the live Safety Theory Workshops offered by EH&S. These advanced courses include:
