The student researchers who participated in the SPUR eight week programs presented their research at the poster session.
The Summer Programs for Undergraduate and Graduate Research Program (SPUR/GR) poster session took place at Hersey Hall on Thursday, August 12, 2016.
Several students conducted research in UCLA Chemistry and Biochemistry laboratories for eight weeks this summer. Students at the poster session visited UCLA as part of several SPUR summer programs – the Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Pathways program; the University of California Leadership Excellence through Advanced Degrees (UC LEADS) program; and the Summer Program for Undergraduate Research – Life and Biomedical Sciences (SPUR-LABS) program.
The Week 8 SPUR poster session on August 11th took place in Hershey Hall on the UCLA campus.
“Through the various undergraduate summer research programs we wish to introduce bright undergraduates to our department, give them an opportunity to engage in ground breaking science, prepare them for graduate school, and attract them back for their graduate research with us.” said Vice Chair of Undergraduate Education Prof. Yung-Ya Lin. “We are especially pleased and proud to be part of the UC-HBCU Initiative to develop and encourage efforts to achieve a more inclusive educational environment of excellence.”
Visiting students participating in SPUR ten week programs will continue to conduct research in chemistry and biochemistry labs for the next two weeks. They will present their research at a poster session on Wednesday, August 24th at Hershey Hall 158 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. These students are visiting through the several SPUR programs – the Cross-disciplinary Scholars in Science and Technology (CSST); the CARE Science, Engineering and Math (SEM) Summer Research Program; and the Amgen Scholars Programs.
A reception for the visiting chemistry and biochemistry summer student researchers will take place on Friday, August 19th from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. in Young Hall 4222. All are welcome to attend!
