Dr. Jeff SongVice President, Chemical Development USBoehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, Inc.  Development of Scalable and Cost-Effective API Synthesis through Chemical Innovation  Abstract: Chemical innovation is the key for the development of scalable and cost-effective API synthesis. Evolution of the synthetic route for a structurally complex drug candidate will be presented, including various strategies to access the central all-carbon quaternary stereogenic center. The ultimate pilot plant route was based on a sequence involving a non-cryogenic stereospecific boronate rearrangement followed by a robust formylation with an in-situ generated dichloromethane anion.
