The UCLA Student Members of the American Chemical Society (SMACS) have received the American Chemical Society Green Chemistry Institute’s (ACS CGI) Green Chemistry Student Chapter Award.
The ACS CGI Green Chemistry Student Chapter Award promotes student involvement in green chemistry principles and practices, which is essential to the integration of environmentally benign technologies in academia and industry.
UCLA SMACS was selected for the award through the chapter’s efforts on highlighting the importance of green chemistry via community outreach, promoting community awareness, and hosting green chemistry activities, as such as organizing a tour of the UCLA Cogeneration Plant, where students learned about how UCLA is practicing the Twelve Principles of Green Chemistry through the operation of the Cogeneration Plant and achieving LEED certifications.
