Boehringer Ingelheim – UCLA Lectureship

Development of New Methodologies for the Synthesis of Biologically Active Heterocyclic Compounds

Abstract.  Heterocyclic compounds are a part of the essence of the development of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API).  During this lecture, examples of novel methodologies for the scalable synthesis of heterocycles used for recent Boehringer-Ingelheim projects will be described.  Another of our main objectives in the Catalysis Group is to broaden the scope of non-precious metal catalysis by developing innovative processes which can be utilized in the pharmaceutical environment.  The preparation of poly-substituted pyridine derivatives and 3,3’-spirooxindoles will be discussed.
