Professors Ken Houk (UCLA), Alec Greer (CUNY Brooklyn College), Matthias Selke (Cal State LA) |
Description | Former colleagues and members of Chris Foote’s research group are pleased to invite you to an event marking the 50th anniversary of the Foote/Wexler discovery. This anniversary and celebration marks the groundbreaking discovery of the role of singlet oxygen as a discrete (if not omnipresent) species in dye-sensitized photooxidations and chemical reactions of peroxides in the dark. The event will be held on Thursday, March 12, 2015 at UCLA. ![]() The afternoon symposium will include invited lectures on topics of singlet oxygen chemistry presented by Prof. Michael Orfanopoulos (Department of Chemistry, University of Crete), Prof. Cynthia J. Burrows (Department of Chemistry, University of Utah), Prof. Albert W. Girotti (Department of Biochemistry, Medical College of Wisconsin), and Prof. Alexander Greer (Department of Chemistry, The City University of New York, Brooklyn College). Ken Houk, Matthias Selke, and Alec Greer will also talk about Chris and singlet oxygen history. A dinner party is reserved at the nearby UCLA Faculty Center. Please RSVP to Dave Gingrich at gingrich@chem.ucla.edu by Monday, March 9, if you would like to join the dinner celebration. 12:00 PM Early poster setup 12:30 PM Light refreshments 1:00 PM Prof. Ken Houk, Prof. Matthias Selke, and Prof. Alec Greer opening 1:10 PM Prof. Michael Orfanopoulos “Singlet Oxygen: Discovery, Development, Mechanisms and Applications in Organic Synthesis” 2:00 PM Prof. Cynthia J. But please let us know if you or your organization would like to make a charitable donation to support the event and future Foote Lecture events (UCLA Foundation gift reference #62342O), and/or contribute to the Foote Graduate Fellowship in Organic Chemistry (UCLA Foundation gift reference #81444E). We kindly request that checks be made out to the "UCLA Foundation". Please let us know if you can attend or if you have any questions. And please let us know if you have any pictures with Chris Foote that you would like to share at the symposium. Thank you and we're looking forward to seeing you at UCLA again very soon!
